Paul Wanner became the youngest Bayern Munich player to debut in the Bundesliga. The Bavarians are the worst hit camp in the Bundesliga with as many as 9 players testing positive for the COVID-19 test.
Julian Nagelsmann named Wanner and Arijon Ibrahimovic on the first team sheet from the Under-19 team. Both the midfielders turned 16 recently. Wanner came as a substitute in the 75th minute against Borussia Monchengladbach at the Allianz Arena. Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann brought in the 16 years and 15 days old to replace Marc Roca.
Wanner got past the previous record, held by Jamal Musiala, who was also in the playing XI on Friday. Jamal was 17 years, 115 days when he made his Bundesliga debut for the Bavarians in June, 2020. Although, Wanner missed the all time German league record by just a fortnight.
However, the Dortmund striker Youssoufa Moukoko holds the record for youngest debut in the Bundesliga. He was 16 years and 1 day old when he made his German league debut in November 2020 against Hertha BSC.
Paul Wanner turn around in life
A lot has been going on in Paul Wanner’s life. On Wednesday, he travelled with the German U17. On Thursday morning, he was invited to take part in Bayern’s final training session for their game against Gladbach. He is a left-footed player, who arrived at Bayern’s academy from FV Ravensburg in the summer of 2018.
“Paul is an outstanding talent with a lot of skill. He is still a very young player, physically he’s not yet fully developed. He is very fast with an incredibly good technique.” “He has a lot of good ideas and good confidence in his ability. He’s a player I have my eye on, who we have to nurture going forward”, he said. “He has to keep a clear head, and the door will be open for him,”
said Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann.
On Friday evening, he came as a sub for the final 15 minutes. Although, Wanner showed glimpses of his potential but could not save his team from a defeat.
