PSG have announced on their official social media accounts that Lionel Messi has agreed to join the French side on a 2-year deal with the option of extending a further year
Messi and his family touched down at Le Bourget Airport, north of the capital, where he was greeted by a large number of fans, who are ecstatic with their club’s latest signing.
The 34-year-old, who is a free agent has reached an agreement with PSG until June 2023 with an option to extend till 2024. He will earn a net salary of around €35m (€25m + add ons).
Following an emotional departure from his boyhood club on Sunday, Messi looks set to link up with former teammate Neymar, and World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe to strengthen an already formidable front line – a scary site indeed for defenders all over the world.
Messi becomes the fifth marquee signing this summer by PSG following the arrivals of Georginio Wijnaldum, Achraf Hakimi, Sergio Ramos and Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Head coach Mauricio Pochettino now has quite the job on his hands. Working with the caliber of player that he has at PSG is a dream for any coach, but the Champions League trophy that has been elusive over the past few years is almost a necessity now.
It would be interesting to see how he manages such big personalities and maintains harmony in the dressing room.
