Erling Haaland could be available to leave Borussia Dortmund in January for €75m.
Haaland has a €75m (£64m) release clause in his contract which is supposed to come into effect in 2022. But according to reports, the release clause will now be activated on September 1.
The Norwegian has sparked interest from top clubs across Europe. Chelsea, who were his most recent suitors were willing to offer upto €130m, a price well over his release clause. Dortmund however, made it clear that the 21-year-old was not for sale this summer.
Haaland completed the transfer to Dortmund from Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg in January, 2020 for €20m. He has played 45 matches in the Bundesliga so far, scoring a total of 42 goals. He presently sits 16th on the active scoring chart. Haaland won the Golden Boy award in 2020. In the 2020-21 season, he was an integral part of Dortmund’s DFB Pokal win. He also won the Bundesliga Player of the Season and finished as top scorer in the UEFA Champions League.
What’s next for Haaland if he leaves Dortmund ?
With almost a goal per game at Dortmund, Haaland is extremely hot property. Chelsea look to be out of the running for him after securing the signature of Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku. Haaland has also been heavily linked with Manchester United in the past. Cavani looks set to move on after his contract expires next year, and so a move to the record Premier League holders could be on the cards. The centre-forward would potentially inherit the no.9 role in a resurgent United side. Haaland of course, has played under current United coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Molde. Their Norwegian link could play a part as well. Real Madrid, Manchester City and Bayern Munich are also said to interested.
