Bayern Munich 1 - 2 Borussia Monchengladbach: Bayern Player Ratings

Bayern Munich had the opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the table. However, they failed to make it count and lost to Borussia Monchengladbach at the Allianz Arena. Bayern were playing with the majority of their starters sidelined due to illness. While Bayern lost their first game since mid-November.

The Bavarians did everything right but were not able to make the most out of the chances created. Bayern dominated the possession with 62%. Moreover, they had more shots on target (7) compared to Gladbach (4). The first half had all the drama needed to decide the game.

Bayern to were too quick to take the lead. Robert Lewandowski collected the ball brilliantly and struck from the outside of the opposition’s box with Thomas Muller assisting the goal.

On the other hand, Gladbach looked bleak in attack with Embolo finding it difficult to get near the ball but Florian Neuhaus managed to equalize before the half-hour mark. The visitors gained momentum and took the lead just before halftime. Luca Netz took the corner and Stefan Lainer was there to head the ball into the far corner.

Bayern Munich player ratings against Borussia Monchengladbach

As Bayern Munich suffers their second defeat against Borussia Monchengladbach this season, let’s look into the player ratings of the Bayern players:

Sven Ulreich (GK) – 6/10

Ulreich made his first league appearance for an ill Neuer. He got his fingertips to Lainer’s match-winner couldn’t keep it out. Although he was quick to react to Embolo’s strike.

Joshua Kimmich (RB) – 5/10

The right-back recently recovered from coronavirus and played his first game since November. He would have expected a better comeback since his mistake in his half led to Gladbach’s first goal.

Benjamin Pavard (CB) – 5/10

Pavard was instrumental in denying Monchengladbach their third goal. But he was not able to control Bayern’s backline.

Niklas Sule (CB) 5/10

Sule was also responsible for Gladbach’s equalizer as he made a poor attempt to clear the cross. He was very unreliable last night.

Marcel Sabitzer (LB) – 5/10

The Austrian never found his rhythm playing as a left-back. Naturally, Sabitzer is a midfielder/forward.

Jamal Musiala (CM) – 7/10

Musiala played well defensively. He made a number of interceptions. He was good in the attack as well as he forced a save from Sommer.

Marc Roca (CM) – 4/10

Roca was sloppy on the field and probably won’t be seen after his bizarre performance.

Thomas Muller (AM) – 6/10

Thomas Muller grabbed his 14th assist of the season. Although, it was more about Robert Lewandowski’s turn. He was really close to getting one for himself.

Serge Gnabry (RW) – 5/10

The German was caught offside more often than usual. He found some space early on but could not convert.

Robert Lewandowski (ST) – 7/10

The Poland striker was on song yet again and had a shot saved by Sommer early on. He scored a banger a few moments later to give Bavarians the lead. He went on to hit the woodwork twice to what would have been another hat-trick for the 33-year-old.

Malik Tillman (LW) – 5/10

Malik made his first start ever start for Bayern but the youngster failed to make an impression.
